Iris Murdoch (1919–1999) was a celebrated novelist and philosopher, known for her intellectually rich fiction and exploration of morality, love, and human relationships. She was born in Dublin and later moved to England, where she spent most of her life and career.

Murdoch studied classics and philosophy at the University of Oxford and later became a philosophy lecturer.
